I think ultimate training has kind of ignored this aspect to fitness (we tend to just talk about “how to jump high”, “how to sprint/recover a bunch”), but it really undergirds your other athletic abilities. This probably means running much slower than your normal pace. For you, this might consist of something like, two 45 minute runs/cycles/ellipticals per week, making sure your heart rate stays between 60-70% of your maximum (there’s nuance here, but i’m throwing out some reference numbers). Specifically, zone 2 endurance training, or what runners/cyclists call “base building”. I think at your age some long distance training could be incredibly useful. I’ll second some of that, it’s definitely good. A relatively straightforward way to measure this is to run 10 40-yard sprints with a short break in-between and time them. Work endurance is a measurement of how well you can maintain maximal effort over a series of attempts. Lower-intensity cardio can certainly help, but what you’re after is something I’ve usually heard called speed endurance or work endurance.
